Grassroots Motorsports 164 EVENTS: ENDURANCE RACING Most years, ChumpCar's 14-hour-long Sebring event is accompanied by rainy conditions. On Friday during setup and registration, a torrential downpour seemed to signal yet another year in the drink. However, you can't always predict the weather. The race did start with wet track conditions, but only a mist was falling from the sky. Despite the constant threat of storms, the track quickly dried and remained that way throughout the entire race. Sebring is tough on cars even without rain, and this race was no exception. The pits saw plenty of repair work: engine rebuilds, transmission swaps, the works. One team fnally threw in the towel after their second transmission failure. Some didn't take the hint, however. Team J.B. Bugs Racing performed an engine swap in only about 20 minutes–and on pit lane. At race's end, the top fve fnishers covered several dif- ferent makes, with the win going to Flatout Racing2 in a Lexus SC300. They were followed by three Miatas and a Toyota MR2. story and photos by mike merrill The ChumpCar Not Quite 12 Hours of Sebring WHERE: Sebring International Raceway Sebring, Florida WHEN: September 20-21 Slightly More Than 12 Hours at Sebring The Racing Strong MR2 GTv6 posted some solid 2:40 laps around Sebring to fnish fourth overall.
