Grassroots Motorsports 129 TECH: PRODUCT NEWS Maxxis Victra MA-Z4S: A Value Performance Tire Looking for a value in the ultra-high-performance, all-season tire market? Maxxis may have an answer for you in the form of their Victra MA-Z4S. The 205/55R16 size, what we sampled on our E46-chassis BMW, can be found for less than $90 each. A similar tire in that size usually costs closer to $100–or more. Unlike the Maxxis Victra RC-1 we tested in our last issue, this is a daily-driver tire. It features a high-mileage tread rating of 420, a solid center rib designed for highway stability, and V-shaped unidirectional grooves for decent handling on both wet and dry roads. The tires went down the highway smoothly, which isn't always a given with a value-priced model. While these aren't serious per- formance tires, they still delivered crisp handling with decent turn-in. The Victra MA-Z4S held its own in the rain, too, displaying zero handling or braking issues. Not all of the big online tire retailers carry the Victra MA-Z4S, but we're told that Pep Boys can serve as a local retail outlet. The Maxxis website contains a dealer locator as well.
