SOURCE Lane Motor Museum: lanemotormuseum.org, (615) 742-7445 LANE MOTOR MUSEUM: A LITTLE WEIRDNESS IN THE HEART OF NASHVILLE The MG Metro 6R4 isn't the Lane Motor Museum's oddest exhibit. When the most normal car in their feet is a Porsche 911, you know to expect the unex- pected–like several Eastern Bloc Tatras, the Peel P50 micro- car made famous by Jeremy Clarkson, and amphibious machines ranging from com- pact to the 100-ton LARC-LX, a Vietnam- era tank transport. A chunk of the 400- plus cars in the collec- tion only have three wheels, and the staff is currently restoring the Gyro-X, a two-wheeled car kept upright by a gyro- scope. (The museum also has a single-wheeled McLean Monowheel and, no, test drives aren't offered.) The museum's staff also has a fondness for propeller- propelled vehicles, including one designed to cross Rus- sia's snow-covered vastness. They don't shun newer cars, though, as they also house machines like the 2007 Renault Megane R-26, the orange car below built to commemorate the brand's 2005 and 2006 Formula 1 world championships. This Nashville museum opened its doors to the public in 2003 and has gradually grown–and gotten weirder– over time. We call it one of the happiest places on earth.
