WHERE TO GET OUT THERE New opportunities keep making it easier than ever to get your car on track in a noncompetitive environment. He was recently looking to try a track event with his bone-stock John Cooper Works-edition MINI Cooper S when he found this one listed online. His dad, a fellow MINI owner, also participated. "I had a blast," Justin said afterward. "The biggest part is just getting out there." His advice for other first- timers? "Just make sure your gas is full." Partway through the last session, Justin's MINI sputtered into the pits, the fuel gauge very close to E. Everyone's Welcome: The fun isn't limited to registered participants. Anyone on site can take their car on track for some paced laps. During the PBIR event, in fact, a certain magazine publisher was spotted enjoying the pace laps from behind the wheel of a Honda Odyssey. Maybe it wasn't the sportiest thing out there, but it quickly let him share the experience with others who had never been on track before. photosbyjuha.com david s. wallens photo Grassroots Motorsports 66
