Grassroots Motorsports 173 similar to what you would fnd on a 997 RSR. For a mild sport suspension, start with upgraded dampers, anti-roll bars, those control arms and some toe links. It's safe to assume you'll spend $5000 if you want coil-overs and another $5000 on monoball control arms, toe links, anti-roll bar bushings and upgraded front/ rear bars. Dual duty is possible since there's no reason to have overly stiff springs on a Cayman, given that the car is more rigid than any other unibody you will ever touch. For power upgrades, the single biggest gains can be seen from an ECU fash, a larger throttle body and a set of stain- less steel long-tube headers. Muffers and a true cold-air intake would fnish the job. For about $10,000 including parts and labor, the Cayman has the potential to make 370 horse- power. There's not much more you can do beyond that other than an engine swap to a larger 3.8-liter engine. We recently created a pro- gram to put the newer DFI technology on an older car so you can make it more reli- able. For $35K to $45K, we can transform a frst-gen car with a blown motor into either a DFI 3.4- or even a 3.8-liter with all kinds of upgrades making well over 400 horsepower. You could do a 4-liter stro- ker kit which we're working on, featuring a piston-and rod kit for the crank that won't require an overbore. The factory has their sauce fgured out when they fnish the cylinders; we've had much success trying not to reinvent everything. There's a reason they design these cars in these ways. I don't think anybody can go wrong snatching up a street Cayman in the color combo they want for $25,000. You can't get a 7-year old 911 for that money.
