Grassroots Motorsports 157 Once we'd taken notes on other successful competitors and backed them up with some math, we had some general ideas for how to start prepping our Z for autocross. But we still needed an interface with the ground. For us that meant a trip back to the e up to 285mm wide. We went with the 18x10.5-inch TSW Nurburgring mounted with 275/40R18 BFGoodrich g-Force Rivals, the top tire from our 2014 test. Although we were giving up 10mm of potential tire width, BFG doesn't make a 285 size in that diameter. Looking at the dimensions, though, the 275mm BFG seemed to put as much tread on the ground as 285mm tires from other manufactur- ers. We fgured it was an academic difference at best. becoming a favorite in our world. Its r light, strong wheel. Then there are the sizes: 17- to 22-inch diameters fered in half- inch increments. Bolt patterns cover most of the popular fve-lug options, and ones like ours retail for a little less than $300 each–a fair value. A small massage from an East- wood fender r e wide tires and wheels are allowed– eased our fears of snagging a fender lip under high compression, and we were in business. From here we were able to prop- most important components to our future success: a proper limited-slip differential. That's all next time.
