The New Mustang Is a Horse of a Different Color story by tim suddard photos courtesy ford PONY T he Ford Mustang has spent the past half-century offering performance at an appealing price. Sure, it could run with the best of them, but take a closer look, and some corporate bin DNA could usually be found. End result: Historically, Mustangs might've posted top times, but have lost some points when it came to the total package. The suspension might voice the occasional displeasure, for example, or the interior might not stack up against Europe's best. Although the ffth-generation Mustang, which covered the 2005-'14 model years, defnitely featured more elegance than ever, let's be honest here: It was still no BMW. The new Mustang changes that. Ford's pony car is fnally, at 50, all grown up and setting its sights on a larger market. Yes, it's that good. It looks like a Mustang and quacks like a Mustang, but the new-for-2015 car adds in a refnement never before associated with the nameplate. Don't worry, though: It's just as brutal as the outgoing version. UP Grassroots Motorsports 58
