Mazda Track Tips Whether you drive one of their cars or not, Mazda has some handy racing advice for you, from tips on walking an auto- cross course and working with a driving coach to reading tire temperatures and attacking off-cam- ber corners. And then there's the driving lessons for specifc tracks, including VIR, Sonoma and, yes, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The advice comes from drivers under the Mazda umbrella. Looking to add some of this knowledge to your memory banks? Go to mazdamotorsports.com and look for the Mazda News heading under the What's New header. Champion Spark Plugs Is Searching for a Champion Start your engines and your video cameras: The Champion Spark Plugs "Search for a Champion" contest is returning for its fourth year in 2015 and will begin accepting entries on November 3 of this year. This contest is a unique and fairly convenient opportunity for racing enthusiasts of all kinds to strut their stuff and get sponsorship. Champion says that it's looking for the best fresh talent "in any sport with an engine," and it means it–racing on dirt, pavement, snow and even water are all fair game. Entrants should submit a 2-minute video telling their story and showing off their skills at alwaysa- champion.com before January 4, 2015. After that, it's up to the rest of the world to view and vote on their favorite videos. Fifteen fnalists will win $5000 scholarships, and one person will win the grand-prize sponsorship of $50,000. That's a pretty sweet payoff for a short video. Champion has even thrown in something for spectators: Any person who submits a vote during the grand-prize voting period will be entered in a sweepstakes for a chance to win free goodies from the sponsor. The contest is open to anybody over the age of 13 in the United States, the District of Colum- bia and Canada (except for Quebec). For more details and offcial contest rules, go to championsparkplugs.com.–Nicole Tropea DRIVERS MEETING Lotus: Not Dead Yet Contrary to the chatter heard online lately, Lotus says that they are not leaving the U.S. or Canadian markets. They plan on selling an Evora for the 2016 model year. They will not import the Evora for the 2015 model year, but they say that inventory contains 2014 cars. The track-only Elise S Cup R and the Lotus Exige V6 Cup R will continue to be available. mark weber photo mark weber photo courtesy lotus Grassroots Motorsports 18
