Lemons in Paradise story and photos by david s. wallens Concours d'LeMons California WHERE: Laguna Grande Park Seaside, California WHEN: August 16 1. Concours d'LeMons appreciates your hand- painted Volvo 240 wagon and your giant, thumping sound system. 2. Not everything on the show feld was a trailer queen. Adrian Smith's 1966 Plymouth Belvedere II has a bona fde 24 Hours of LeMons racing heritage. 3. Worst in Show honors went to Steven Mendell's 1973 Acoma Mini Comtesse, a 49cc French microcar that, as Steven tells it, is pretty horrible to drive. 4. Call it the spiritual suc- cessor to the Nissan Leaf– maybe. Dennis M. Bassano's Lektrikar II is a 1980 Datsun 310 converted to electric power by Western Research Industries. Pebble Beach. Jay Leno. Wayne Carini. Is this a top-tier concours sporting linen table- cloths and exotic cars with names that you can barely afford to pronounce? Hardly. Welcome to the Concours d'LeMons, perhaps the most laid-back affair held during Monterey's historic festivities. Why Hagerty and GRM continue to back this one baffes many. EVENTS: CONCOURS D'LEMONS 1 2 3 4
